Edgetech at the FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2018

At the FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2018 trade show the discussions regarding all aspects of digitisation, production automation, innovative window solutions and, of course, the perennial issue of energy efficiency will become the marked focus of attention. The age of flexible spacers has now arrived in the form of the window generation 4.0 according to warm edge specialist Edgetech. Therefore the main focus of the Edgetech trade show presentation will be upon the technical benefits of the Super Spacer® spacers during processing in automatic production lines, in addition to the topic of "preventing thermal bridges".

Countdown to Edgetech’s 30th anniversary.
In 1989 the Warm Edge pioneer launched the first flexible structural foam spacer with an integrated desiccant onto the market. The company now supplies some 300 million metres of the product a year to more than 90 countries. At the start of the 1990s a large section of the industry also started investing in the automation of individual manufacturing steps. Due to a shortage of skilled workers and high competitive pressures, many window producers are now faced with the decision of whether to move in the direction of full automation whilst the warm edge has at the same time established itself as an energy-efficient edge seal compound for windows," explains Joachim Stoss, Managing Director of the German Edgetech Europe GmbH company based in Heinsberg. "So flexible spacers like Super Spacer®, are now experiencing a new lease of life so to speak," he continues, "because in view of the manufacturing technology involved, they outperform rigid spacers in terms of their flexibility, application speed and precision."

Flexible spacers for precise positioning
The company based in Heinsberg is convinced that new developments such as quadruple insulating glazing and complex superstructures with integrated, intelligent functions can only be produced economically and precisely with a high degree of automation in combination with flexible spacers. A robot can set the foam-based products in parallel down to the last millimetre in a matter of seconds, thus guaranteeing an impeccable and tight edge compound. "Automation and digitisation will also provide medium-sized window producers with competitive advantages in the medium term," states technology specialist Christoph Rubel, "offering high-quality products and flexible manufacturing that respond quickly to customer requirements and economically produce smaller series."

About Edgetech Europe GmbH
Edgetech’s Super Spacer® flexible foam-based spacer systems act as energy-efficient warm edge spacers in insulating glass windows. They significantly reduce energy loss to the outside, largely prevent condensation and also contribute to the lifespan of a window.

Edgetech Europe GmbH, located in Heinsberg Germany, is a fully-owned subsidiary of Quanex Building Products Corporation, a leading global provider of energy-efficient components such as window and door profile systems, flexible insulating-glass spacers, edge seals for photovoltaic modules, wooden floors and ceiling profiles, as well as window and door grilles, with its head offices in Houston, Texas. Based on turnover Edgetech/Quanex is the world‘s largest manufacturer of spacers. Edgetech Europe GmbH is a sales location for the markets in continental Europe and one of the three worldwide Edgetech production plants, with a total of 450 employees and 16 extruders.
